WORKSHOPS

The Chicago Pagan Pride workshops are subject to change. Any changes will be announced on the PROGRAM webpage and posted at the Community Center on the day of the event. All workshops, except for the Guest Speakers from the Green Party, will take place in the Community Center.

"Ecological Wisdom and Activism" ~ Kathy Cummings & Phil Huckleberry ~ Green Party

Kathy Cummings is the Green Party's '08 candiate for Senator. Kathy has a long history of being a green activist for many years. She founded the Alliance of Non-Smokers (ANS) in 1975. Through the MOO (Milk Outrage Organization, Inc), she alerted the community about the recombinant bovine growth hormone in dairy products and got rBGH diary products out of the Chicago Public School system for one year.
For ten years, Kathy has promoted sustainable, renewable energy by opening her house for public view through the IL Solar Energy Association's solar house tour with her solar voltaic and hot water systems. Kathy’s gardens won her the first place award in Chicago's "Naturalized Landscapes" category in 2004. Her fish pond supplies nutrients to her garden, her rain barrel supplies water to her fruits and vegetables and her g erbils supply mulch to her perennial plants. Her beekeeping activities are on hold until after the November election. All the while, she is happily entertained by the joyful sounds of her terrarium-kept crickets.
Kathy's running as Senator because of her determined commitment to end the U.S.--led wars in the Middle East and bring our troops home. As candidate for U.S. Senator from Illinois, Kathy pledges to abide by all of the elements specified in our Constitution--the defining document that brought our Union into being and binds us together as a nation.

Kathy Cummings For Senate

Phil Huckelberry is the Co-Chairperson of the Green Party of the United States and Co-Chairperson of the Illinois Green Party. He is a two-time candidate for State Representative in Illinois' 88th District(Bloomington-Normal). He has been the primary electoral strategist for the Green Party in Illinois and led the petition drive in 2006, which led to Rich Whitney's breakthrough 10% showing in the gubernatorial race. Recently, Phil served as Honorary Co-Chairperson of the Green Party's 2008 Nominating Convention in Chicago, where the party nominated former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney for President and hip-hop journalist/activist Rosa Clemente for Vice-President, the first two-women-of-color ticket in American history.

"Sacred Traditions of Hawaii's Medical Kahuna" ~ Rick and Connie

Discover the ancient traditions of Hawaiian healing and shamanism through "talk story" with Kahu O Mana Rick Pono'uhane Ho'okuakua Vrenios and Connie Kelakea Vrenios. With a unique vision of the world, the Hawaiians developed their own way of working and living in harmony with the land, the heavens, and humanity, finding forgiveness, and finding healing. Within a profound relationship with the elemental energies, their lives were centered in a practical spirituality that continues to be applicable today, if we are willing.

"Between the Veils" ~ Chaz

One of the midwest's most sought after psychic mediums Chaz, from the Temple of Avalon, will be hosting this workshop. Exploring the mysteries of mediumship, dispelling myths, and uncovering truths about the gift of mediumship, and the tools that are used by those who seek to communicate with the other side. Chaz will also include personal accounts of his life as a medium, a question and answer segment and a interactive demonstration. This is a unique opportunity for those who seek to know more about life, between the veils.

"Maggie Running Fox's Cherokee Spirit Stones" ~ David Spellsinger

David "Spellsinger" Hobgood shares this precious heirloom passed down from his grandmother to him as part of his training in the spiritual ways of the Cherokee Medicine Path. Forty nine simple yet sacred stones used in divination, magic and shamanism.

"Shamanism and the Toltec" ~ Mark

"Parenting Pagan Teens" ~ Lisa

"Kirlian Photography" ~ Rev. John Gruba

It's a well-known fact that a faint electromagnetic field or 'aura' exists around all living things. This workshop will help you to feel and see how energy can flow through Reiki. Kirlian photography works along the principle that the body has an energy field that can be 'photographed' and that any irregularities in the energy field recorded by this technique can signify potential health hazards.

Rev. Gruba will offer Kirlian photographs during his workshop.

"Animal Health and Well-Being" ~ Rev. John Gruba

This workshop will feature some basic Reiki healing techniques that can be used on animals. You will also be introduced to flower essences and how they can be used to promote healing.

"Herbology & Health" ~ Katrina Spelldancer

Katrinia "Spelldancer" Hobgood will provide instructions on basic herbology and creating a "green" herbal first aid kit.

"Creating Protection Herbal Blends / Letters to our Troops" ~ at the Project We Care Community Booth

The Project We Care will be facilitating a workshop on making incense blends, and we invite everyone to stop by our booth and create a special protective blend to be sent overseas to our Wiccan, Pagan, and Heathen soldiers serving in the middle east.

We'll also have writing materials for writing letters and notes of support - or you may bring your own letters, notes, and poems to ship out!

WICI ~ Project We Care

"Poi and Fire Performance Artistry" ~ Dawn

"The Green Goddess: Living in Balance with Fast Food, Plastic, and Technology" ~ Paulette

This workshop focuses on the health hazards of fast foods, BPA in common plastic goods, and the controversary surrounding cell phone dangers. Fact or fiction? You be the judge!
