ABOUT US

THE HISTORY OF CHICAGO PAGAN PRIDE

Our Pagan Pride event history began in September, 2002, on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. At that time, the Sanctuary of the Crescent Moon, a Dianic Wiccan Temple, saw the need to promote the ideals of Pagan fellowship.

Since then, we've collected food goods for Chicago-area food banks, raised hundreds of dollars for the TLC Animal Shelter in Homer Glen, Illinois, supported charity fund drives for the Katrina and Tsunami victims and battered women's shelters, as well as collected religious items and books for Wiccan, Pagan, and Heathen soldiers overseas.

Several goals of past Pagan Pride events has been to celebrate a main ritual, feature the many artisans, merchants, readers, and healers from around the Illiana area, as well as host countless educational workshops and seminars.

CHICAGO PAGAN PRIDE ~ 2008 FAQS

As our event enters its seventh year, here are some of your Pride event questions answered:

Q: How come there's a new website for the Chicago Pagan Pride?

A: The national office encourages all Pride events to become non-profit "chapters" of the Pagan Pride Project, Inc. This means that beginning this year, the Chicago Pagan Pride is hosted by the "Greater Chicagoland Pagan Pride Committee". This means that vendors now rent their booth space, which covers event expenses of the permit, luncheon, printing costs, etc.

Q: Is there an admission charge for this event?

A: Yes, there is an admission charge of canned food goods for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. There are several food stores in the immediate area where you can make your purchase.

Q: Are there any restrictions regarding this Pride event?

A: Alcoholic beverages, animals/pets, illegal substances, weapons, or *adult content* items ARE NOT ALLOWED onto the premises. Please remember, this is a family-friendly event, so everyone is asked to use good judgement regarding their attire and behavior during this event. Security will be on hand for your assistance.

Q: Is there parking close to this Pride event?

A: Yes. There is a parking lot next to the park and additional street parking. All parking is free and we suggest that groups carpool where possible.

Q: Are there restrooms?

A: Yes, there are two clean, modern, indoor restrooms located inside the community center.

Q: What should I do when I arrive at the event?

A: Please register at the Welcoming Table, located directly in front of the community center. You must register in order to attend classes and be eligible to win the Raffle Prizes. All children must be registered in order to participate in the children's activities.

Q: What's this I hear about Raffle prizes?

A: Raffle prizes will be announced every half hour, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Once you register at the Welcoming Table, you'll fill out a Raffle Ticket stub. Winners must be present to collect their prize.

Q: Are there facilities for the disabled at the event?

A: Yes. There are several parking spaces in front of the community center. The grassy area is a bit bumpy, so we suggest you bring someone to assist you.

Q: How do I know what there is to do and see?

A: Our Pride event offers many activities and vendors for your enjoyment. Please check out the PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES on the website several days before the event. Also, there will be a printed progam available at the Welcoming table, when you register.

Q: Will there be a photographer?

A: This is a "Camera-Friendly" event. There will be an event photographer taking pictures for possible publication on our website. If you do not wish to be photographed, please avoid the camera.

Q: Are the canned food donations just for people, can I bring some donations for the animals?

A: The canned food donations are *just for people*. Money raised from our live auction will go to benefit the TLC Animal Shelter, in Homer Glen, IL.
